Where is my data stored?
We use a hybrid backup architecture: data is backed up both locally (on-site) and to the cloud. This gives you fast local recovery for everyday incidents and cloud-based protection against physical disasters like fire, theft, or flood. All data is encrypted with AES-256 encryption.
How quickly can you restore my data after a problem?
Recovery speed depends on the type of restore. A single file or folder can typically be recovered within minutes. A full server recovery takes longer but is significantly faster than rebuilding from scratch. We plan your backup strategy to minimise your Recovery Time Objective (RTO).
How long do you keep backup data?
We retain backup data for 7 years, which meets POPIA compliance requirements and is appropriate for most regulatory environments including financial services, healthcare, and legal.
Is cloud storage like OneDrive or Google Drive a proper backup?
No. Cloud storage syncs your files — if you accidentally delete or overwrite something, the change syncs everywhere. It also provides no protection against ransomware, which can encrypt synced files. A proper backup is separate, versioned, and encrypted. We often find businesses believe they're protected when they're not.
